[also applicable to fish products (whole fresh fish or processed fish) from Iceland]
As from 1 January 2009, animals and products of animal origin from the EU are no longer checked by the border veterinary service. The cantonal authorities responsible check the specified veterinary certificates and commercial documents within the framework of their operations.
Please note that it will also be the case in the future that not all animal and product categories can be imported and exported via every border crossing. In the future, the customs authorities alone determine the competence of the various customs posts. If you have any questions, please contact the competent departments of the federal customs administration, see "Customs".
There is no change in the arrangements regarding species conservation: the compulsory CITES permits, certificates and controls for numerous animal species and products of animal origin are not affected by these modifications, see "Wild Fauna and Flora / CITES".
