On the basis of the Bilateral Agreements between Switzerland and the EU, animals or animal products transported through Switzerland are differentiated between those that come from an EU country those that come from a third country (= non-EU country) - the regulations likewise differ depending on whether the destination of the goods after transit is an EU country or a third country.

These differences give rise to the transit types listed in the navigation bar (left):

• EU-CH-EU (from the EU through Switzerland to another EU country)
• TC-CH-EU (from a third country through Switzerland to an EU country)
• TC-CH-TC (from a third country through Switzerland to another third country)
• EU-CH-TC (from the EU through Switzerland to a third country)
• TC-EU-CH-EU-TC (from a third country through the EU, through Switzerland, through the EU to another third country).
