Exports to the EU
The products have to originate from approved collection or storage centres / collection teams, see right on this page "List of approved Swiss establishments". An official veterinary certificate is required to export semen an embryo from equines, domestic bovines, ovines, caprines and porcines as well as from animal kept in "approved centers" (according to Directive 95/65/EEC, e.g. several zoos). Turn to the competent cantonal veterinary office if you don't know who is the official veterinarian in charge in a given region. He/she issues the export certificates, and notifies the consignment to the competent authority of the country of destination by means of the TRACE System. The applicable certificates are the same as for imports, templates are available in the import conditions for the particular product, see page Semen, embryo and ova from the EU.
For other types of germplasm (or products of other species) the conditions agreed in the bilateral treaties Swizerland - EU are less concrete, please ask the competent veterinary authority of the country of destination about the detailed requirements.
Export to other countries (than EU Member states)
Exporting plants must be approved according to the requirements of the country of destination, consignments must besides be accompanied by official health certificates.
It is however the duty of the exporter to find out the import conditions of the country of destination (and possibly of the countries of transit, the "useful addresses for exports" might help to contact the competent authority). He/she submits the required certificates to the cantonal veterinary office / the competent official veterinarian for approval and signing.
